It’s a common call that our Melbourne, FL based window repair team gets all the time. Windows that once opened to let in that fresh Florida breeze have become frozen in place. No matter how much herculean strength you apply, they just won’t budge. Or perhaps your windows do the opposite. They open….they just won’t stay open, slamming down shut, requiring your to prop the sash open with a book or a piece of wood. Both of those issues are symptoms of the same problem. You’re the balances in your windows (commonly referred to as springs) have failed. The good news is that with window repair service from AA Window Repair, we can get your windows working like new, in no time at all!

Nothing Lasts Forever, Not Even Your Window Hardware

Whether you have double hung or single hung windows, your window balances play a crucial role in the proper functioning of your windows. As a somewhat hidden component to your window, your window balances sit inside the window frame and assist with the total weight of the window sash as you open and close your windows. They also are responsible for holding the top sash of a double hung closed when not in use. When your window balances are working properly, your windows open smoothly, efficiently, and securely – staying in place when you leave them open. When you have difficulty raising the window sash or if it doesn’t stay open at all, this is a surefire indication that at least one, if not both of your window balances has broken. Like most hardware, the repeated use of your windows can lead to the eventual wearing out of this piece of hardware. The closer you live to the beach, the faster this can occur as saltier air tends to lead to faster degeneration. AA Window Repair has years of experience with these types of window repairs and can replace your window balances quickly.

Cool season in the Melbourne, FL area means it’s time to open those windows! This time of year also means that you are more than likely going to find out if the balancers in your windows survived the humid Florida summer.

What are Window Balances?

In a nutshell, a window balance is a component of your window. It is found within the frame of your window. Whenever you open, close or leave the window open, it is the balance that engages and does the heavy lifting for you. While there are different types of window balances out there – Block and Tackle, Coil, Spiral, Weight and Pulley – they all serve the same function.

When Good Balances Go Bad

So, how do you know when your window balance has gone bad? One sure-fire sign is that you simply cannot raise or lower your window. If, after assuming the sumo position and lifting for all your worth until your literally sweating, you have only opened the window less than an inch….you might have bad balances. In a similar fashion, if it takes all of your weight pushing down on the sash to get a window closed, or the ride down to closed is “herky jerky” then it’s more than likely time to replace your window balances.

Melbourne, FL’s Window Repair Experts

When window balances fail altogether it can create a dangerous situation, especially if there are children in the home as any window opened can immediately slam shut at any moment. AA Window Repair & Glass has been providing quality home window repair in the Greater Melbourne Area for almost 10 years. We are privileged to serve homeowners all over Brevard County and as far south as Vero Beach!
